NASHVILLE, Ind. (IUSTV News) - A Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET) investigation into possible dealing of fentanyl ended in the arrest of a Bloomington woman who police say was selling large amounts of counterfeit Oxycodone pills.
19-year-old Torien Thornton was arrested by the Brown County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop Monday in Nashville, IN. Another 19 year old from Bloomington, Aireana Brandon, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
Thornton's 3-year-old child was in the car at the time of the arrest, and found to be around narcotics, police say. A case manager with the Department of Child Services was contacted and assigned to the case.
Police say the narcotics investigation began when they learned that Thornton was allegedly distributing drugs in Bartholomew County. Over the course of several days, JNET seized more than 200 counterfeit pills related to the investigation.
Thornton was charged with dealing a narcotic drug, a level 2 felony, and neglect of a dependent, a level 5 felony.
Thornton remains in jail on a $60,000 bond, and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted on the charges.
The Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team (JNET) is a collaborative effort by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office.
