LAKE MONROE, Ind. — High water levels will keep the beaches at Paynetown and Fairfax State Recreational Areas at Monroe Lake closed for the Memorial Day weekend, when most Indiana State Park beaches open for the season.
According to Monroe Lake’s Facebook page, the beaches are unsafe due to seawalls that are currently underwater. The beach houses at both locations will also stay closed.
The post continued to say that the purpose of the reservoir is for flood control, and that the lake is doing its job keeping water from damaging homes and property downstream.
