Five taken to the hospital after serious crash on Indiana Toll Road

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (IUSTV News) — Five people are in the hospital after a serious crash on the Indiana Toll Road Monday night, according to Indiana State Police.

In a release, ISP said that troopers responded to the 76 mile marker just after 8 p.m. for a two-car crash.

A preliminary investigation found that one of the cars reportedly slowed down near the Notre Dame exit, when the second car rear-ended the other car. A backseat passenger in front car was ejected and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Three other passengers and the driver of the front car were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the second car was not injured in the crash.

The Indiana Toll Road was closed for about an hour before opening back up to traffic around 9:30 p.m.

ISP said neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in this crash.

The Indiana Toll Road is in the far north portion of the state, near the Indiana-Michigan state line.
