INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (IUSTV News) – Eastbound lanes of I-465 on the southwest side of Indianapolis are closed for the next few weeks as crews work to make progress on a significant phase the I-69 Finish Line Project.
The closure began on June 2, and will continue until June 21. During this time, all eastbound lanes will be closed between the I-70/I-465 interchange near the Indianapolis International Airport, and the I-65/I-465 interchange.
The eastbound on and off ramps within this stretch of the interstate will also be closed during that time. This means that drivers heading north on I-69 from Bloomington will not be able to exit to the east onto I-465.
Other exit ramps that will be closed during the closure include:
- Kentucky Avenue/S.R. 67 to/from I-465 EB
- Mann Road to I-465 EB
- I-70 EB and WB to I-465 SB/EB
- East Street/U.S. 31 to/from I-465 EB
Drivers are told to follow the official detour of I-70 eastbound to I-65 southbound at the South Split. INDOT stresses that traffic during rush hour may be slower than normal.
INDOT says the closure is to allow crews to perform road surface upgrades, increasing lane capacities, and pipework aimed to improve drainage.
After the eastbound lanes reopen at the end of the month, westbound lanes of I-465 will be closed in the same stretch of interchanges beginning July 7 and continuing until July 29.
The I-69 Finish Line project is expected to be complete and open to traffic by the end of 2024.
