BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) — Dozens of yellow rubber duckies filled the campus river early Saturday afternoon, as the Mu chapter of the national co-ed service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega held their annual duck race fundraiser.
All funds raised by the Duck Race goes towards several Bloomington organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington, Teacher’s Warehouse, and the Monroe County Community School Foundation.
"It just it means a lot to see everyone coming together for a great cause," said Gie Wilson, Vice President of Semester Service Projects for the Mu chapter of Alpha Phi Omega. "Getting to see not only the people from our chapter in our brothers, but people around the community, students, just Bloomington citizens.
The event featured ducks numbered 1-100, with several heats. The first five ducks costed $1 each, after-which each $5 increment was good for an additional duck and a raffle ticket for a gift basket. There were also free lawn games, informational booths, and free pizza from Pizza X.
Alpha Phi Omega is one of the largest service fraternities in the country, according to its website. Wilson said she rushed APO two years ago, and was elected to her role in December.
