IU School of Medicine find breakthrough new blood test for schizophrenia

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — IU School of Medicine researchers have developed a new blood test that could screen for Schizophrenia, a psychiatric disorder that causes hallucinations and delusions, which is believed to affect over 3 million people in the U.S.

This new test looks for biomarkers in a person's blood and can be used to look at future risk of developing the disorder. It can also help match with treatments that would be more effective.

The research is a part of the nearly two-decade-long look at psychiatric disorders including anxiety, PTSD, suicide, and mood disorders.

The test could be available as soon as this year, according to the IU School of Medicine.
