ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (IUSTV News) – A two-car crash in southern Allen County on Saturday night injured seven, including five children, according to the Indiana State Police.
ISP says state troopers and deputies with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the intersection of U.S. 27 and Horman Road around 9:45 p.m. and located two heavily damaged cars and multiple victims.
An initial investigation found that 17-year-old William Jamison, of Fort Wayne, was driving east on Horman Road and reportedly failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 27.
ISP says that a southbound car driven by 33-year-old Jennifer Huser collided with Jamison in the intersection.
Jamison and a 15-year-old female passenger were transported to a Fort Wayne hospital.
Huser, along with a 34-year-old male passenger, and three children, aged 4, 12, and 15 years old, were also transported to a hospital.
ISP says proper safety restraints likely reduced the severity of the injuries. The four-year-old passenger was restrained in a child safety seat but ISP is still determining whether the safety seat was properly secured.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash but ISP says legally-required toxicology tests are still pending.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
