Inaugural memorial 5K race on May 5 to honor late IU linguistics professor



BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (IUSTV News) — An inaugural memorial 5K race and 3K walk will honor of the life of a professor in the IU Department of Spanish and Portuguese who died unexpectedly last year, the department announced in an email to students.

The Kim Geeslin Memorial 5k race will take place on May 5 at 9:00 a.m. at Switchyard Park. The announcement says there will be coffee, bagels, and bananas starting at 8:30 a.m.

The IU Department of Spanish and Portuguese are also asking for volunteers to help with the event. Those interested in participating should register here by 6 p.m. May 4. Race-day registration is also accepted.

The race is free, but donations to the Kimberly Geeslin Memorial Fellowship are accepted.

Geeslin passed away Jan. 25, 2023. She was a professor in the College of Arts and Sciences and was serving as vice provost for faculty and academic affairs since Dec. 2022. Keeslin served as associate vice provost in the same office for the five years prior.
