Search underway for two missing men on Lake Michigan


Indiana DNR says strong winds and high waves are making search efforts difficult. 


LAKE COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana Conservation Officers are searching for two men missing in the waters of Lake Michigan who were last seen yesterday, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR says a third man was found and released after receiving medical treatment.

The search began around 2:40 p.m., after a report that the two people were missing after jumping from their boat near Hammond.

According to the DNR, the boat was found nearly two and a half miles off the shore of Whiting.

Conservation officers were advised that another man was missing but wearing a life jacket.  

The U.S. Coast Guard found the missing man wearing a life jacket around 4:30 p.m.

The search continues for the other two missing men.

The DNR says their identities are being withheld until family is notified.
