Mayor Thomson to proclaim Saturday as ‘Coach Lee Corso Day’

BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson will join the live broadcast of ESPN College GameDay on Saturday morning to officially declare Saturday, Oct. 26 as “Coach Lee Corso Day” in Bloomington.

Thomson is scheduled to be live between 10:15 a.m. and 10:25 a.m., the city announced Friday.  She will present the official proclamation, which details Corso’s impact on Indiana University and greater Bloomington area.

Lee Corso was the football coach for Hoosiers from 1973 to 1982 and led IU to its second ever post-season bowl appearance in the Holiday Bowl in 1979. He is ranked as the third winningest IU football coach and third by a Hoosiers football coach in wins over Purdue.

Corso is a 2010 inductee of the Indiana University Athletics Hall of Fame. He is widely known for being a notable on-air personality as an analyst for ESPN and College GameDay.

ESPN’s CollegeGame day will be live from 9 a.m. to noon from the south lawn of Memorial Stadium before the Hoosiers take on the Washington Huskies.

Some Hoosier fans were already camping out a spot Friday afternoon.
