Iowa man killed in crash along Indiana Toll Road

ANGOLA, Ind. (IUSTV News) – Troopers with the Indiana State Police are investigating after an Iowa man was killed in a three-vehicle crash along the Indiana Toll Road Tuesday morning.

According to ISP, around 8:15 a.m., troopers responded to the 153-mile marker in Steuben County, roughly four miles from the Indiana/Ohio state line.

A preliminary investigation found that a semi tanker was going east along the toll road, and entered into the toll plaza at a high rate of speed. ISP says that the driver, Edwin Lee Bottelman, 73, of Greeley, Iowa, did not attempt to brake before striking the back of a box trailer, and then going over a divider and hitting a second trailer.

Police say Bottleman’s semi suffered ‘catastrophic’ damage. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the semi-drivers was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital with minor injuries. The other driver was not injured.

No other vehicles were damaged in the crash and the investigation remains ongoing.
