Indiana’s Losing Streak Reaches Five With 3-2 Loss to Michigan

WSOC vs Michigan

The Indiana Hoosiers hosted the Michigan Wolverines on a beautiful afternoon at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Sunday. The Hoosiers, who have seen their Big Ten losing streak balloon to four games, came into play still desperate for a win. Michigan found themselves in a similar boat as they took a 2-game skid of their own on the road.

The first notable action came in the 17th minute as Maggie Ledwith’s attempt from outside the box was handled by the Michigan goalkeeper, Malia Zillman. Dani Jacobson came up big in goal for the Hoosiers just 30 seconds later as she shut down Melisa Kekic from point-blank range.

The Hoosiers had to play from behind again as Ella Jablonski netted a goal in the 24th minute. Jablonski's team's leading 5th goal of the season came from long range through traffic as Jacobson couldn’t get enough of a hand on it to keep it out. Michigan fended off a few chances in the winding moments of the first half and took their one-goal lead into the break.

The Hoosiers finally broke through in the 53rd minute as Jenna Chatterton finished a Haden Vlcek cross that left Zillman out of position. Chatterton’s second goal of the year brought the energy back into Bill Armstrong Stadium as she was able to finish from a tough angle
beyond a Michigan defender.

In the 63rd minute, it was the Wolverines who took the lead back on a penalty. Adi Walick made it look easy from the spot for her 4th goal of the year after a replay review confirmed the foul committed by Haden Vleck.

The Wolverines would find a wacky third goal in the 73rd minute after Campbell Jewel’s header off a cross hit the post and wound up in prime position for Lilley Bosley to pick up her first goal of the season.

The Hoosiers wouldn't go down without a fight as Maggie Ledwith put away her 5th of the season in the 85th minute after the ball pinballed in front of the goal. 3-2 was the final on Sunday afternoon as the Hoosiers fell short of completing an improbable comeback. Indiana will head to Los Angeles with a five-game losing streak to face UCLA on Thursday.
