“Well, it meant everything.”
Senior Inés García Prado kept it short and sweet when asked what scoring on senior day meant to her. When Celia Arroyo Cabezudo drove the ball up the backline and dropped a pass into the middle for Prado to drive home the final goal of the game, you could see just how much that goal meant to Prado.
Prado’s first goal of the season finished off an absolutely dominant game from the Hoosiers. They got it started very early, with Cabezudo scoring just a minute into the contest. This was the 4th goal of the young season for the Sophomore from Spain.
Indiana’s dominant defense allowed them to constantly pressure the forward with the ball. Earning shot after shot and corner after corner. Late in the 1st half, one of those corners would result in a goal. Lily Freeman received the ball at the top of the arc and laced a shot that was smartly redirected into the top corner of the net by Junior Mijntje Hagen. The Hoosiers entered the half up 2, having not allowed a shot on goal or even a corner.
The game continued in the second half much like the first. Suddenly, Molly Stutte came alive, scoring two goals in just 3 minutes. Stutte has been an absolute star for the Hoosiers so far this season, already notching 10 points. She has had at least one goal or assist in every game.
What better way to end senior day than to have Prado score in the final moments? Prado has spent her entire college career with the Hoosiers, starting all 59 games. Even though the game was already well in hand, Prado’s scoring meant much more than just another goal on the board.
“I remember being a Freshman during Senior Day, and I was like, ‘Wow, this is really cool, and they have such a big impact.’ And now to be the Senior is such a full-circle moment.”
A very heartwarming moment for Prado and her teammates. They also climbed back to over .500 with this victory and will look to continue their winning ways on the road against Cornell this Friday. The game will start at 1 p.m in Columbus, Ohio.
