OREM, Utah — Charlie Kirk, co-founder and CEO of the conservative group Turning Point USA, was shot and killed Wednesday during a college event. He was 31.
THE STORY:
The confirmation of his death comes from President Donald Trump, a colleague and supporter of Kirk, who announced on his Truth Social account that Kirk had passed.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead” Trump posted.
Social media videos show Kirk talking under a white tent at Utah Valley University, moments before a shot was fired striking him in the neck.
The suspect has not been caught according to CBS News, and representatives from both sides of the political spectrum have come out to condemn the shooting.
“The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible” California Governor Gavin Newsom said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form.”
Kirk was set to host another event on his tour at Indiana University in Bloomington, planned for Oct. 21 in the evening. IU College Republicans released a statement about the planned visit:
“Though he will no longer be with us in person, his commitment to free expression, civic engagement and empowering the next generation will remain a guiding light for our work and our mission,” the group said.
