Meet the Staff of Hoosier Sports Nite
Sports Director: Casey Richards
Casey Richards is a junior at Indiana University majoring in Sport Communication - Broadcast with minors in Telecommunications, Sport Marketing and Management, Business, and History. He is from Granger, Indiana and graduated from Penn High School in 2007. Casey has been with IUSTV since he was a freshman and now serves as the Sports Director and Executive Producer of "Hoosier Sports Nite". Other media experiences include working for www.palestra.net, an internet television station, as well as interning with WNDU-TV in South Bend and the South Bend Silver Hawks baseball team. In his free time Casey enjoys exercising, watching television and movies, playing video games, reading, and spending time with friends. He hopes to have a job anywhere in the sports media field in the future.
Producer: Courtney Cronin
Courtney Cronin is the producer of IUSTV's Hoosier Sports Nite. She has been involved with HSN since the first day of her freshman year and has covered everything from softball to men's basketball. As a reporter, Courtney reports every week from various IU varisty sporting events, looking to provide unique video coverage not found anywhere else in Bloomington. She also works as a reporter for the online college news and sports network called the Palestra.net. Her hobbies include going to concerts, hanging out with friends, covering sporting events, learning all she can on new media and media convergence, playing with her dog, Scrappy, and watching her favorite sport, college basketball.Someday, Courtney hopes to land a job as a general assignment sports reporter for a top network, covering events from college basketball to the NFL.
Reporter/Anchor: Ben Heisler
Ben Heisler is proud to be in his fourth year at Hoosier Sports Nite working as an anchor, reporter, analyst and host of the nationally award-winning segment "The Rundown". In his time with IUSTV, Ben has been privileged to have seen and covered some of IU's most historic athletic events including the Kelvin Sampson resignation, the Tom Crean hire, and IU football playing in their first bowl game in over 14 years in 2008. A senior majoring in journalism from Glencoe, IL, Ben has been pursuing a career in sportscasting and sports journalism since he eventually figured out that he wouldn't ever be starting point-guard for the Chicago Bulls.In addition to his work at IUSTV, Ben is also the Sports Director for WIUX Radio in Bloomington where has broadcast IU football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, hockey and the Little 500 race. Ben is also the host of "The Honest Brew" sports talk-radio show on WIUX, Sunday nights at 10pm and is a senior columnist for TheHonestBrew.com. Ben has also worked as play-by-play announcer for the Fayetteville SwampDogs baseball club, ESPN Radio in Chicago and WGN-Television.
Reporter/Anchor: Rachel Benson
Rachel Benson is a senior at Indiana University majoring in Sport Communication - Broadcast with minors in Telecommunications and Coaching. Rachel is from Wheaton, Illionois and attended Wheaton North High School, where she was a Cross-Country and Track runner. While at IU she has become involved with a Greek sorority, Pi Beta Phi, has become involved with Little 500, and joined IUSTV Hoosier Sports Nite in 2008. Hoosier Sports Nite gave her the skills to have an opportunity to intern with the Indianapolis Colts Football team, and hopes to use the skills learned from IUSTV in her in future career after graduation.
Reporter/Anchor: Lucas Mayer
Lucas Mayer is a sophomore at Indiana University majoring in Sports Communication Broadcast. Lucas was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where he attended Calabasas High School. He is a die hard Dodger and Packer fan. Lucas has interned in minor league baseball and wrote for a college football website. He hopes to make a career in the sport broadcasting field.
Reporter/Anchor: A.J. Schub
A.J., a sophomore majoring in Sports Communication-Broadcast, has been working on Hoosier Sports Nite since his freshman year. A.J. was born and raised in Glenview, Illinois. While attending Glenbrook South High School he was involved in music and theatre. In addition to reporting, A.J. also helps writing the scripts for the weekly Hoosier Sports Nite episodes, and helps with the shows taping each week. In the future A.J. hopes to be involved with sports television in some capacity.
Reporter: Caitlyn Seamon
Caitlyn Seamon is a sophomore at Indiana University majoring in Sport Communication Broadcast with a minor in Sport Marketing & Management. Caitlyn was raised in New Albany, Indiana and graduated from New Albany High School where she was involved with clubs, sports, and radio/television broadcasting. Caitlyn enjoys being involved with campus activities, attending sporting events, and is a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Her future goals of becoming a sideline reporter lead her to join Hoosier Sports Nite in the fall of 2009.
Reporter: Nick LaGrange
Nick LaGrang is from Lafayette, IN. and a Junior majoring in Journalism with a concentration in Broadcast News. Nick LaGrang has been with IUSTV and Hoosier Sports Nite for a year and a half. And Nick has covered several IU sports including football and men’s basketballalong with last years Little 500.
Reporter: Samantha Dewig
Samantha Dewig is a freshman at Indiana University majoring in Sports Communications-Broadcasting. Sam grew up in Evansville, IN and attended Mater Dei High School. At IU, Sam works onthe IUSC website and is a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. Her dream job is to be a sports reporter for ESPN. She runs the teleprompter like no body's buisness, enjoys 2 a.m. Steak 'n Shake runs.
Reporter: Cody Sharrett
Cody Sharrett is a sophomore at IU majoring in Sports Communication- Broadcast and minoring in Sports Marketing and Management. Cody grew up in Fortville, IN and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 2008. Cody was born a die-hard Cubs fan and also enjoys professional soccer. His hobbies include playing guitar and dominating his roommates in FIFA. He will be interning at WHDH in Boston, MA in the summer of 2010.
Reporter: Hannah Helbert
Hannah Helbert is a junior at Indiana University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Communication and Culture. Hannah is from Nashville, Indiana and graduated from Brown County High School in 2007, where she was involved with soccer, basketball, choir and TV. During her time at IU, she has been a member of the Union Board Concert Committee, Youth Advocating Leadership and Learning, and as of last fall became a member of Hoosier Sports Nite. When not at school, Hannah enjoys hanging with her friends and family and going home to see her dogs and horses. Hannah is focusing on Broadcast News and Public Relations. Her goal upon graduating from IU next spring is to work for a news station and eventually become a news anchor.
Reporter/Floor Director: Joseph Mwamba
Joseph Mwamba is a freshmen at Indiana University majoring in Accounting and Finance with a minor in Telecommunications. Joseph was raised in Granger, Indiana near South Bend, and attended Penn High School. While at Penn, he was the Executive Director of its school news station, Penn News Network (PNN), and created an Internet sports radio station. His hard work won him the school's 2009 Broadcast Journalism Award and the Principal Service and Citizenship Award . In his time at IU, he has worked with Hoosier SportsNite as a Floor Director and Sports Reporter. Joseph loves watching and playing sports, getting involved on campus, and enjoys listening to music, web-serving, and hanging out with his friends. His future goal to become an television network executive lead him to join the Hoosier SportsNite team in August of 2009.
